This virtuous cycle that allows the reuse of resources, benefits the country in the economical, social and environmental dimensions.

From the economic perspective, currency is retained in the country for an approximate amount of 120 million dollars a year upon the elimination of the raw material importation.

Regarding the social aspect, the steelworks project and the ferrous scrap iron recycling activity, generate direct and indirect job sources in benefit of approximately 5000 ecuadorian families, linked to the scrap iron primary collection activities, storage and transportation.

Nevertheless, the greatest benefit of the ferrous scrap iron recycling for the steel production is given on the environmental dimension. The ferrous scrap iron market’s dynamization encourages the recovery of materials disposed inappropriately in gullies and other improvised places. Consequently, the recycling activity influences positively in the esthetic quality of the natural or urban environment.

And…What is the scrap iron?

The scrap iron is no more than a pile of accumulated iron waste that doesn't fulfill any function. This is why Adelca, like it’s done in other countries in the world, has undertaken a recycling project, to convert that scrap iron into its raw material and to manufacture new steel products.
